Up for sale from a recent well known collectors estate in Honolulu Hawaii this Prehistoric Thai rectangular agate plaque pendant from Lopburi. Of all Southeast Asian artifacts, the agate pendants are among the most admired, studied, and collected. Extremely rare, they are associated with prestige burials and burials on the Khorat Plain. This beautiful agate material cannot be found anywhere around Southeast Asia, and it is presumed this was part of the luxury trade with either Afghanistan or India. This particular piece is one of the largest and most ambitious ever found. The drilled channel for the hanging strand is smaller than a pencil lead and remarkably winds around the strata. This was obviously made by a skilled and patient craftsman, a master of his craft.

From the Thomas Miller collection. Similar items from the same collection were included in the 2010 SE Asia exhibit at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The condition is described above - for more details please check the photos.

This is only one of about 200 pieces that will be listed in the coming days and weeks from this collection. We were very fortunate for having been chosen to work with the estate. There are many items that I have not seen outside of well stocked museums. The tags that are attached to the items are from a gallery here in Honolulu and the pricing on the tags was what these items were offered for. I am delighted to offer all pieces at significantly lower rates and hope that these items will find new homes in collections all over the world.
