L. Segedin Bio
One of Hawaii's well-known architectural illustrators, L. Segedin was born in West New York, New Jersey, a township across the river from Midtown Manhattan. The overpowering aspect of the Manhattan skyline, and the activity of the waterfront and the natural beauty of the Hudson all contributed to his early interest in architecture. After graduation from California Polytechnic University with a degree in architectural engineering, he worked a number of years in California before settling in Honolulu to pursue a career in architectural illustration. Since then, he has produced illustrations for architects, real estate developers and advertising agencies. He has exhibited and sold his work at the Downtown Gallery in Honolulu and he has been represented in the Honolulu Academy of arts annual "Artists of Hawaii" exhibit.
Segedin does a line pen and ink drawing first and then transfers it onto watercolor paper. The colors are done using a dry brush watercolor technique, which gives the painting the feel of a hand-colored etching.
The subjects of his current paintings are everyday places in Honolulu that are slowly disappearing and being replaced with the modern world. His compositions are beloved by locals and tourists alike.
