Up for sale from a local estate in Honolulu Hawaii this circa 1920s Italian white marble relief carved sculpture that is titled Bas relief portrait, depicting a woman in profile that was mounted onto a wooden backing and is signed by the artist Ettore Cadorin (1876-1952). More about the artist:
Born in Venice, Italy on March 1, 1876 into a long line of artists. Cadorin won a medal while studying in Venice at Académie Royale des Beaux Arts. The King of Italy decorated him with the Cross of Chevalier Officer of the Crown of Italy. After further art study in Paris, he came to the U.S. in 1915. He worked at Columbia University before moving to California in 1925 to teach drawing and sculpture at the Santa Barbara State Teachers College. During the 1940s he was a resident of San Francisco. Cadorin died in Sonoma County, CA on June 18, 1952. Member: NSS. Exh: Assistance League (LA), 1934.
