Up for sale from a recent estate in Hawaii, this circa 1950s Japanese stencil dyed or katazome print that is untitled depicting an interior scene with a seated figure and was created by the national treasure artist Keisuke Serizawa (1895-1984). Keisuke Serizawa was a Japanese textile designer. In 1956, he was designated as a Living National Treasure for his katazome stencil dyeing technique by the Japanese government.
Serizawa visited Okinawa several times and learned the Ryukyu bingata techniques of dyeing. Serizawa was also a leading member of the mingei (folk art) movement founded by Yanagi Soetsu. His folk art includes kimono, paper prints, wall scrolls, folding screens, curtains, fans and calendars.

The item is overall in acceptable pre-owned condition, the print was never framed, adhered on the corners onto a backing, comes with tag and artist bio, some brown spotting visible on the verso throughout
