Up for sale from a recent estate in Hawaii, this 19the century Japanese scroll painting on silk in its original box that depicts a scholar and attendant in a mountainous Nanga landscape that was created by the well known artist Kôseki Nakanishi 耕石 中西 (1807-1884). The painting was purchased in 1997 from a Christies auction. The condition is described above for more information please check the photos. Free local pick up possible!!!

More about the artist:
Nakanishi Kôseki was born in Osaka in 1807. He studied first in Osaka, then went to Kyoto to work and study in the studio of Oda Kaisen (1785-1862), who was a nanga painter. He also studied the Southern Chinese style. This resulted in a style which is typical for the Meiji nanga style. He moved back to Osaka when he was 26, and lived there for the rest of his life. He was very popular in the Kansai area. He is known best for his landscapes.
Condition:
The painting and box are overall in good pre-owned condition, brown staining and signs of wear to the mounting in places, possibly some old repairs, the original rollers were replaced with rollers that can safely cross country lines, the painting was purchased in a Christie's auction in 1997
