Up for sale from a local estate in Honolulu Hawaii this circa 1940s Hawaii Koa wood framed matted and glazed conte drawing that is titled "Hukilau"depicting a local family working beachside under a tree that was created and is signed by the well known artist Alexander Macleod (1888-1975). More about the artist:

Alexander Samuel MacLeod was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada on April 12, 1888. MacLeod studied at McGill University. After settling in San Francisco, he studied at the Institute of Art under Frank Van Sloun. He had a studio in San Francisco in the old "Monkey Block" (now the Transamerica Bldg) and while living down the peninsula to San Mateo. By 1929 he had returned to Canada and for ten years following WWII he was head of the graphic art department for the U.S. Army in the Pacific. He was author-illustrator of Spirit of Hawaii in 1943. He died in San Mateo, CA on Oct. 26, 1975.

The item is overall in good pre-owned condition, the paper appears much more yellow in the close up photos, the photos of the framed drawing reflects color-wise much more what the pieces actually look like, faint minor staining in places, framed in solid Hawaiian Koa wood
