Up for sale from a recent estate in Honolulu Hawaii this circa 1800 British or Dutch (both are a guess) framed oil on canvas painting that depicts a scene with a country road a small pond some houses and two figures with the outlines of a church roof in the background and is signed by the artist R. Valten (that is at least what it looks like). The painting is from an East Coast family and was kept here in Hawaii for the past 40 years. When I picked it up it was very dirty and in great need of some TLC. My conserver thought that the skill of the painter was above average and I decided to have it cleaned and stabilized. I think it turned out well!! Unfortunately I was not able to pull up any information on the artist. The date is a guestimate too - there is a paper tag in the back that reads - believed to be circa 1800. At this point I am hoping that one of you might be able to shed some light on the artist or any of the other details in question. Please email me!!!
