Up for sale from a recent well known collectors estate in Honolulu Hawaii this 18th-19th century Tobrian Island conch shell gorgette from the Kouhea Tribe, Kinimere Village, Western Kerema, Papua New Guinea. Provenance: From a collection gathered during about a thirty year period in the 1950's through mid 1980's by an American missionary and his wife serving in Papua New Guinea. The wife was diagnosed with cancer in 1985, the couple returned home, and the collection was placed for consignment sale through a Port Moresby gallery. The condition is described above - for more details please check the photos.

This is only one of about 200 pieces that will be listed in the coming days and weeks from this collection. We were very fortunate for having been chosen to work with the estate. There are many items that I have not seen outside of well stocked museums. The tags that are attached to the items are from a gallery here in Honolulu and the pricing on the tags was what these items were offered for. I am delighted to offer all pieces at significantly lower rates and hope that these items will find new homes in collections all over the world.
