Up for sale from a recent consignor in Honolulu Hawaii, this 1784 English Hawaiian Koa wood framed engraving that is titled A Canoe of the Sandwich Islands, the Rowers Masked by John Webber English: Priests traveling across Kealakekua bay for first contact rituals. Each helmet is a gourd, with foliage and tapa strip decoration. A feather surrounded akua is in the arms of the priest at the center of the engraving. It is not known what the purpose of the ritual surrounding first contact with Westerners was. The condition is described above for more information please check the photos. In case that you would like to save some money on the shipping we are happy to remove the print from the frame and ship it by itself!!!
