More about the artist:
Cora Yee, a graduate of both Punahou School and University of Hawai'i-Manoa has led a culture-enriched life as a result of being exposed to diversity in Hawaii, traveling through Europe for eight years this along with her recent marriage to her husband Roman, (originally from Nepal); is all integrated in her artwork. With her most recent images, Yee has abandoned her usual whimsical and decorative style to portray a much deeper, rich story of the Himalayan culture and religious beliefs. Yee's inspiration derives from her admiration of the Himalayan people who base their lives around love and trust despite fear of political and socioeconomic turmoil in a developing country. Yee's work demonstrates her intense passion through color and tones and a more introverted series of work has emerged, serious paintings, which engage the imagination of inner self. Don't miss Yee's first solo exhibition since the 70's at the Koa Gallery at Kapiolani Community College, through October 19th.
